Beats to dance to

You'll need two main things. Hard hitting upbeat drums and a driving pulsating bass line.
 
How about hittin up the club and listening to what makes people go crazy...

Punchy, uptempo kicks, light simple melody- most likely a synth, but doesn't have to be

A pulsating bassline is an active bassline... listen to 'In Da Club'...that's a pulsating bassline... it's active... it's gives off lots of feeling...
 
Also....do not overkill. Keep it simple....at least thats the trend nowadays.
