I'm a rapper, and I'm wondering how much of the creative special effects of a hiphop song is done by the rapper himself, or the producer, or does it depend? When I listen to some of Tech N9ne or Krizz Kaliko's songs, they have a shit ton of effects going on, especially all of the recent songs they are creating, and that's making me curious what they do behind the scenes.

Depends. Sometimes when a producer makes an instrumental he'll have the sound effects in there from the get go. Sometimes the engineer will add effects and drops and the like to the beat to accentuate whatever the rapper is rapping about. So in essence it varies from camp to camp, artist to artist.
