What's this instrument?

It's actually a stack of instruments all played live:

Timpani for the drum quality
Double bass with a strong down bow that is sustained
Cello at same pitch as the double bass also with a strong down bow and sustained

the three together sound awesome.

I would suggest that trying to mimick this in sw/vsts will take more than a little bit of fiddling to get right
