What is this bass sound?

The sound comes in at 1:00, and I can't figure out how to re-create this sound

Is it frequency modulation, or a simple envelope on the pitch, is it a square-wave or a sine, any flanger?

Any help on where to begin would be amazing

You could start with a square wave, add maybe some FM to give it that slight metallic character. No pitch envelope, but yes to a filter envelope. I'm not hearing a flanger there.
