Tweaking bass

I'm looking to emulate that uber-funky, bass from tracks like Many Tenticles Pimping on the Keys (Lo Fi Allstars) or In Stereo (Plump DJs). I tried running a saw wave with a square wave, and a saw with a sine wave, but nothing sounds similar. Help?

I've never heard either of the songs you listed. If you could post a small clip of what you're trying to do I'd be happy to help out.
