Tips For Creating Good Sounding Basslines?

I always struggle to make the bassline to the track. (not the 808's bassline but the groovy old school rap/jazz type of bassline).
What are your best tips for creating a good bassline?
Thanks.

The sound is extremely important, I like analogue or virtual analogue *hardware* synths, stuff like the MS-20 mini is affordable and a true analog, or you could get a nord lead or rack (if you have a master keyboard already) for even cheaper.

Also, you can try synchronizing the bass with the kick, that always gives some extra "boost". either sync the bass with the kick or the other way around.

Musically, the 7th can help you "make it funky" for example if you're in C minor, try and include a B note within your bassline

Less is more, if you want funk, you want good placed, punchy notes. Create a bassline, then delete all notes that aren't absolutely necessary.

Hope it helps
