string glissando

how do you get that rising.falling string sound that is used alot in music. is it jsut programmed, or is it a sound that is used all the time or what? kanye seems to use this alot, but i cant seem to figure out how to get that sound...any ideas?

use a string sound and make the notes rise or fall and mess with the rhythm, the attack, filters, etc. a little delay panned a little to one side and the dry strings to the other side can make 'em sound bigger/different

For us that have to deal with MIDI, this might give you an idea as to how to pull those violin runs off.
