Software vs. Hardware

alot of engineers love using hardware to master their music like hardware EQ's and compressors. why dont they just use the origional EQ plugins/ compressors on their software?

Because 1) they're set in their ways & used to that kind of workflow and/or 2) they prefer the sound. Compressors especially tend to be the kind of thing where the (best) hardware still might have an edge over plugins. And turning knobs is always nicer than mousing around :)

I agree that compressors are still best in the hardware world. I have used all the 1176 emulations except for the UAD stuff which I hear is awesome, but they just cant match the bite and character of the real one. Thats not to say that plug ins aren't just as useful, or more efficient and easier to route. But, if im in a studio and they have a simple signal chain, and I CAN use a hardware model, Im going to do it....But at home...ITs all plugins.
