Smooth Video Game Synths

Hey everyone, I really need some help! I've been working with Ableton, and I'm trying to get the sound and feel of old-school video games, but I'm looking for a smooth and polished sound as opposed to the rough sounds that you get from typical saw-wave 8-bit VST synths.

Here's some examples of what I'm going for:





If anyone can tell me how to make a sound similar to that, I would be grateful forever.

Go 2 da flea market spend $50 on a sega genesis buy games for dirt cheap sample from the headphone jack n its 16bit so it sound rugged yet clear....not 2 mention u get to relive your childhood.
