Roots: What they Do Keyboard sounds

What’s up?

So last night I was listening to Illa… What they do by the Roots. And was taken away by the intro keyboards.

Does anyone know how to recreate sounds like that ? I am not talking about the Rhodes in the back, but the big sound, it almost sounds sampled. The sounds the guitar is playing over.

The guitar IS playing over a sample, but it's very faint and sounds like strings. Not big at all. What do you mean?
 
Are you sure it's a sample? It kinda sounds like it, which is why I mentioned it but I didn't think it was since they are pretty good when it comes to making sounds like that.

Do you know where the sample is from or how to create sounds like that ?

It almost sounds like some mellotron and some effects but I have no idea what effects can make that sound like that.
