Question about certain sound in a song

Hey guys

There's a particular record that features a G-Funk style type of whistle synth, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get something similar like it. I've tried everything. I don't know if this is the right forum to ask this, but is anyone aware of how to get something like this? It's so amazing. It starts at around 1:57 in the video:

It's a basic sine wave with a little bit of portamento and some reverb. I made a similar sound in Sylenth1 for you.
