Programming drums

Hi.

I'm still learning to program drums on a step sequencer.

I love the kick/808s in "often" by the weeknd (can't post a link); that comes right after the chord progression and melody in the intro.

It's kinda hard to do it on the mouse/daw setup.
Would using a midi controller or drumpad (eg. nanopad2) be easier?
If anyone has a better suggestion tell me tho. =)

For some it's easier to tap in beats with a midi controller, or Maschine, MPC... Most of the time I program my drums in ableton. I find it easier to come up with new beats that way. Try different setups to see what works best for you. Either way you'll need to practice;-)
