problem adding the correct harmony to melody

ok wuss up fp im having sort of a problem i went from being able to make good progression with mediocre melody lines
to making good melody lines to not being able to add the right harmony/chord progression
and i say right!! because i can have a street trap melody going and when i add chords it sounds like r&b it just make the melody sound totally different can somebody help!
