Portishead Mysterons Theremin

how do I create the theremin sound from 'Mysterons' by Portishead?

I read that they used an SH-101. I've tried using an SH-101 VST but I can't get close. I have Hypersonic and there are some good theremin presets on there but nothing that resembles this sound, and despite endless tweaking i can't get very close.

I realize that a lot of the quality it has is in the mix so any mixing tips would also be much appreciated thanks.

I think the trick to get Theremin-y sounds from the SH-101 is to turn the oscillators down completely and just use the filter's self-oscillating capability - cutoff just a bit open & resonance almost all the way up (it can be tricky to find the exact sweet spot but it's there). The waveform from a theremin is basically (but probably not exactly) a sine, and that's what you get from the filter. Since the sound is produced by the filter, you'll also need to apply the LFO to the filter instead of the oscs to achieve the tremolo. And of course, turn the portamento up for those smooth glides.
