A peculiar question about sidechaining.

I'm not quite sure how to ask this question but is there anyway to selectively apply sidechaining to certain beats? For example, let's say I have a 4 to the floor kick drum but I want my Synth sidechain compression to only occur on beats 1 and 3 but not on 2 and 4. Is there anyway to accomplish this?

Use something else to trigger the sidechaining, not the kick. If you have claps on 2 and 4 use them.

You can use a completely separate track of silent kicks/ any other sound you like on 2 and 4 (stop the sounds routing to the output) just to trigger the sidechaining

Hope that makes sense

Silent kicks are one way to go. Another would be to have two synth tracks. One gets sidechained and plays on beats 1 and 3. The other goes without sidechaining and plays on beats 2 and 4.

You could get a VST called LFO tool. It will give a sidechain sound without having to trigger a kick to it.

Or alternatively you could just automate the compressor (the threshold, for example) so that it only acts in the places you want it to.
