Pads arrangement in deep house

It's something I've always not been 100% sure about...

Particularly with pads - is there any "rule" on where these fit best in the arrangement of a deep house track?

From listening to references, I can hear some during breaks, some at the beginning and some also seem to be placed at random but maybe it's complimenting something else in the track that I'm not hearing..... Some tracks use none at all.

Would love to hear what you guys think or what you tend to do with them....

:D

I believe most pad work is done at the beginning of breakdowns in deep house. IE the beginning of a build up to add a sense of "depth" to the song. Usually pads are deep in reverb. I like to add a small clap or percussion with tons of reverb and echo as well to give space to my track.

Perfect example of pad work is the dip by justin jay. I would post the link but I joined this forum today. :P
