Need help with scales....Music Theory

After reading a few books on music theory im still confused about alot of things. I would like to know when playing a scale, do all the keys in the scale have to be played? Do they all of to be played in a whole bar? Also do all instruments have to start on the first key of the scale?

Basically what he said. I think beginners hear so much about music theory that they think that's all there is. But I think you would help yourself a lot if you got yourself some beginner music books and focus on learning songs (in addition to practicing scales/chords). This will help you understand the relationship b/w scales and chords, and more importantly how they relate to making music. my 2 cents.
