Is Music Theory crucial?

Hi guys, I'd like to start learning music production (I use fl studio) but I have no musical background (I bought a midi keyboard).
Now my question is: Should I learn music theory basics, is it preparatory?
If yes, what do you suggest I do? (links or books?)

I believe a sufficient enough amount of theory knowledge is highly beneficial. (Scales, Chords, Composition)
But you don't have to know a lot to make good beats.
With that being said, i recommend 'Tonal Harmony' by Kostka and Payne, if it's within your budget.

If you really want to make music production your career, then I would suggest getting at least the fundamentals of music theory down. After that, it is up to you if you want to take it further.

If you have a good ear you might be alright... but it definitely helps to at least know some basic stuff. Sample-based boom-bap it'll more important just to have a good ear but if you're doing stuff that doesn't revolve around samples it's pretty key
