so what i'm hearing in the preview track in this page:
Between Interval
(sorry it's not on soundcloud)

it sounds like you're hearing it from the room next door.
how do i get this effect??

stop and think about it for yourself a moment
- what is missing in the sound?
- what is the volume of the sound?
- what parts of the sound are louder than others?

answers should be
- high frequencies
- low-moderate
- low frequencies are loudest, mids a little less so, highs missing or severely damped

what tool allows us to apply this type of effect?

Answer could be
- multi-band filter (variable bandwidth and variable slope per bandwidth)
- low pass filter (12db or 24db per octave slope)

enjoy

thank you so much for this post.
it taught me how to analyze an effect.

so to figure out what the producer did to a sound,
i should identify the qualities of sound (volume / time, frequency / time, frequency inherent in the sound etc).
