Key notes

Hi guys!

So im really new in this, and im starting out with trying to make some remixes...
Im really not at all in with the theories of music... So i just want to know, what does it mean when you have a key note?
Is it the only note you make chords out of? Or is the note the song is mostly being sung in?

Really appreciate an answer, thank you.

Aite....key note. I'm going to assume you know how the piano is laid out. If you don't know then refer to this picture

So pretty much in all WESTERN MUSIC, there are twelve notes. On the piano they play out as 7 white keys + 5 black keys = 12.

From here over time long story short (in music history of course), a theory developed as to the common practices of musicians and producers and composers, which centers around Keys, Chords, and Scales.

So for example we have a scale that sounds very happy to the ear and we call in the Major scale.

The C Major scale which starts from C (the most basic basic basic scale) is made of seven notes

C D E F G A B <-------just think that no.1 is the KEY NOTE of the scale.
1 2 3 4 5 6 7

If we have the E Major Scale which starts from E

E F# G# A B C# D# E
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 (1)

E is the Key note.

Same with the rest.

When you have a key note, it means the scale or the chords made from the scale are based around that key.
It means that THAT Key note is the most important.

But it is not the only note that you use to make chords out of as you can see from the scales.

Neither is it the note where the song is mostly sung in.

Sorry for the rough answer :P

Key and note are two words that mean different things, not really sure what you mean by 'key note' without more context

Wow thanks!
That really helped me alot :D

The notes that are within the same key sugnature? These signatures can change throughout a piece of music but for it to sound nice, notes have to be in the same key signature. (until it changes to another). A lot of music today is starting make more unconventional key signatures. Thats why our music sounds different, like jazz did.
