Hello guys, I'm a massive MJ fan and just the other day I decided to give his lastest album (Xscape) a listen, having ignored its existence for quite some time now (Its a great album btw, give it a listen).

Anyway this one song "Chicago" really caught my attention and I want to know how to replicate the drum roll fill used just before the beat kicks in.

Can someone help me figure what beats the snares are laid on (is it in triplet?)

Appears just after the 00:10 mark

Michael Jackson - Chicago

Thanks Guys !!

Basic snare, volume automation. sounds like triplets.

If u want to replicate and learn from tracks...

1. Youtube downloader
2. paste the file in ur daw (master clock on right bpm)
3. Zoom in to the place u like in the song
4. see how is was made.

so a quick listen says that the beats are 32nds into a final 8th note commonly known as a five stroke roll. It is played in the space from the and of 4 and finishes on beat 1 of the next bar
