How to remove the instrumental from a song? (No phase cancellation)

I want to do the same thing he does in the video, but reversed (=remove the instrumental), how can I do it?

I tried removing the vocals and using phase cancellation to get them back, but it didn't work (Is that because the frequencies change when I apply plugins and then the phase cancellation won't work?)

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated
 
What frequencies change? What plugins are applied? What the hell are u talking about mate? And you want separate the vocals out of a song without this phase cancellation trick or what?
