How to make Vinylz' type drums

Especially the kick, it's so hard hitting and clean.
Like in tracks like R.I.C.O or All things Go when it's just the kick hitting and not a kick and an 808 hitting at the same time, it sounds so full and hard, in all my tracks I can never do just the Kick and a different bassline because the kick by itself doesn't fill the mix, it feels empty like something is missing (because the kick doesn't hit hard enough even if I really turn it up)
 
The drums in RICO and All Things Go are actually layered short 808s with a lot of compression and some distortion or saturation.

Very hard to make that sound nice though, I'd go with sample packs.
