if im producing in fl what i have found that works is i layer my kicks. 4 each. i usually tweak 2 of the 4 kicks with a 7 eq with the trebles lowered to bottom and mids about 25%. then i go to lower the cut on the 3rd of the 4 kicks and i usually leave the 4th normal depending on the track i might delay its hits by a touch.

I'm into the simple process of recording clean and dry no effects, then I compress, EQ, and maybe compress the group channel as well to get my drums to pop in the mix. I have not layered my drums I guess I'm just use to getting that desired sound with out laying, but I certainly will try that technique and see how it will improve my sound.
