How do I do this? 8-Bit Drum Filter - 'Crystallized' by Melody's Echo Chamber

Hi all, first time using the forums so I'm hoping I'm putting this thread in the right place.

Well, I want to know how Kevin Parker (producer and drummer - I believe) achieves this 8-bit, video game-esque filter effect on the drum track.

I can't post a link since it's my first post - so just take a look at 'Crystallized' by Melody's Echo Chamber

I may be completely wrong in thinking it's a filter, maybe it's just an 8-bit drum machine layered over the top. Either way, I'd love to hear anyone's opinions on it. It's a gnarly sound none the less.
 
There might be a lowpass filter on there as well, but mostly it's just a bitcrusher, automated to go from full-on crushing towards a cleaner sound.
