Hi i'm doing a composition for school and I'm having difficulty figuring out what i've done and whether it's right. I'll make this short.

Key is Gmaj, 4/4 time in case you play it out.

The progression in the section i'm having difficulty with goes:

Gmaj7 (4beats) - F#Dim (4beats) - Em7 (4beats) - G (2beats) - ? (2beats)

G ect...

Last chord ("?") is E - G - C - D.

I don't know what it is but it's the only one sounding okay.

The chord after "?" is G.

I think the formula for it is 1 - b3 - #5 - 7 based on the Gmajor scale.

I just don't know what it's called and whether it's the right chord or not, or needs adjusting. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

so there are three ways to think of that chord

Em7#5 = E-G-B#-D
Cadd9/E = E-G-C-D
G6sus4/E - E-G-C-D

the progression itself is interesting - I am assuming a few things about the progression and the bass line - it is a descending line until the last bar like so - G-F#-E-D-E - so that the progression reads more like this:

Gmaj7 - F#mb5 - Em7 - G/D - Cadd9/E

Gmaj7 = G-D-F#=B
F#mb5 = F#-F#-A-C
Em7 = E-G-B-D
G/D = D-G-B-D
Cadd9/E = E-G-C-D
