Dubstep "Breakdown" tips?

Hello!

I've been making music for over 6 years, and about a year ago started getting into Electronic styles more(Electro, House, Trance, etc)
But there's one style in particular I have extreme difficulty with;
Dubstep.
:l

I can make Leads and Basses for it, no problem, and I can get the intro and main melody going fine.
The part I struggle with is the "breakdown", the bit when everything goes... random, in a sense(I'm not too sure what the actual name is, sorry)

Take for instance... Deadmau5's remix of "My Name Is Skrillex."
At 1:00, for example, the bass goes 'random' whilst sounding good.

I seem to have extreme difficulty making areas do this.
:/

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to get used to doing this kind of stuff, or any tips for Dubstep in general?

Cheers!

just make little weird (but good souding) repetitive melodies/drum patterns and then create some variations using modulation and shit. That's what I'd do, but idk shit about dubstep lol.
