Whats up fellas...i have tons of sound kits drums percussions etc....and I have a problem with knowing what percussions tp put in my pattern and where to place them...as far as rides...open hats...cymbals...I kno crashes generally go at the beginning...shakers...tambourines etc....to make my drum loop more interesting

percussion by function

kick, most high drums in paired hand drums, Timpani - rhythmic pulse - beat 1 and 3
snare, tambourine (according to the Beatles and George martin and Jim Steinman) - back beat - beats 2 and 4
maracas, shakers, hi hats, ride cymbal, low/high drum patterns in paired hand drums - pulsing subdivision of the beat - 1+2+3+4+ etc.

by paired hand drums I mean bongos, congas, timbales, etc

timpani also provide a root-5th context

everything else is decorative and accent to need
