DC4 Instrumental Technique

Dear FP Members and Music Lovers

When I listen to Meek Mills Dreamchasers 4, I notice that the beats are a little quieter than productions of other artists. Also they sound really compressed, but full at the same time, his voice is really on top of everything.

Basically, I can't explain exactly (maybe the pros will understand), but the way the songs are mixed and mastered sounds new to me or different from everything other i've heard.

How do you get your beats to sound like the ones in DC4? Is there a simple explanation to how they mixed the album?

Honestly DC4 mix really sounds more like "mixtape mastering" as opposed to an Album. There are barely any dynamics, its like at the mastering stage, they just crushed everything with a limiter and mixed around the vocals. You can also side change compress the whole track to the actual vocal and then side chain the 808 so it cuts through..
