most of time i dont incluse crashes in my beats...but when i hear other peoples beats they sound more completed cuz they know when and where to include crashes.....the only time i might use a crash is after a drum roll...but some beats have crashes in the initial loop....so my question is when is a good time to inlcuse crashes in an beat exculding after drum rolls...i apperciate the help....

on the first beat of a bar, on a chord change, basically whenever u have a crash tho u want to have a kick drum under it or it will sound weak. listen to music and analyze when people use crashes.

Use crashes to accent certian notes and stops.. and when i use crashes i always put them on the 1st beat (4/4 time) hope this helps
peace

on downbeats, during drum fills, on snare beats, it really doesn't matter as long as it sounds good. but try not to overdo it because then it gets annoying

The rule is no rule.

Don't always do a kick drum under it.

Don't always do it on the first beat.

Yeah I like having random crashes; like this is my drum pattern

K-KS-K---S
K-KS-K---S
then the next is
K-KS-C---S

when you do it like that it can be real sexy sounding, try it out.

Try this: put a crash at the start of every bar, then take them away again until it sounds right.
