hello,

using the piano, i want to create a 6 bar+ long chord progression in the scale of g minor lets say. what are some ways to make the progression sound more professional? also, do i use the harmonic minor when creating progressions? i am creating dance music using logic studio. thanks

Use the harmonic minor.

I'm still not sure why folks use the word professional when they mean smooth or slick - professional means just two things
  1. you get paid for what you do and
  2. you have a commitment ongoing learning in your field.

Any other use is hyperbole - exaggeration for the sake of exaggeration......

Now in creating progressions that work in the harmonic minor there are some good ideas based in the Cycle of 5ths, cadences and chord substitutions. Here some threads that cover it in all the detail you could possibly want (maybe ;))

Cadences explained in one way

Chord Progressions and approaches in both major and minor

Other chord types and Secondary Dominants

Neo-soul stuff

Borrowed chords

Using V[sup]7[/sup] in the Harmonic minor

Turnarounds and the like

Root Key, scales and such ignore the beef with rf and jckhzrd and you will find some good stuff here
