Chord Melody Help? Martin Garrix??

When making a chord melody,

would you start by making the chords up along the way/ piece by piece. Or by making the top melody first, then adding the chords in after?

i usually make the chords first, then use the chords notes to make the lead and melodies

Either way is fine, and both will likely lead you to a sound that you like. You should try doing it one way for a beat, then the other way for the next beat. Whatever is best for you because I think this is more about "opinion" than "fact".
