Can't Post Soundcloud Links!

Oxygen Beats

The Future of Music
Hey, I need help from an admin. Not sure where to post this, but hopefully someone who can help sees this. I can no longer post soundcloud links in my signature. I'm entering the soundcloud URL surrounded by the soundcloud tags, but it inserts a weird "> into it and makes the link unviewable/unplayable. It hasn't always done this. Can any admins help me out???

@mwandishi: the mods can't fix this as it is not an issue as such (read below for more insight as to why that is - vBulletin should fix their parsing engine to eliminate this problem, but there are several known and oft repeated workarounds to this problem)

@oxygen:
your link

https://soundcloud.com/oxygenbeats/new-oxygen-sound-kit-i-demo

looks like this

https://soundcloud.com/oxygenbeats/new-oxygen-sound-kit-i-demo

when you create the soundcloud tagset the software is still seeing the url tagset or in some cases automatically applies the url tagset to the link even though there is a set of tags that should tell the parser to ignore the enclosed text as a link

so that your tagset looks like this

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/oxygenbeats/new-oxygen-sound-kit-i-demo[/soundcloud]

and produces this as a result

The usual cause of this error in interpreting the tagsets is that you have "automatically embed links" switched on in your editing options.

To fix this problem you need to do one of two things (preferably do both this time and then you will never have to worry about it again)

Go to your editor preferences and switch off automatically embed urls (do this and it will never happen again)

edit the link and remove the enclosing url tagset

i.e.

instead of it looking like this

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/oxygenbeats/new-oxygen-sound-kit-i-demo[/soundcloud]

you want it to look like this

[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/oxygenbeats/new-oxygen-sound-kit-i-demo[/soundcloud]

which gives you this

I got that last bit wrong (it is 3 am here and I whilst not tired am somewhat brain dead - insomnia is a curse) - you can set your editor preferences when using the editor itself. There is no need to turn off automatically parse links, as when I use the editor this is on and I do not have any problems as evidenced by my post above....this may be because I also have the editor switched to show me source rather than a true wysiwyg view.

However, it is likely that you are using the full wysiwyg editor, I prefer the standard editor as it provides me more certainty over how my posts look (especially given my extensive and non-standard use of tables)...

When using the full wysiwyg editor, the links are automatically parsed as url tagsets - you can tell this because they are shaded blue and provide a target when you hover over them.

If you want to continue to use the full wysiwyg editor, you can address the link issue by selecting the link and clicking the unlink button (it looks like the planet with a red X through it, next the the planet with a chain link in it)

Additionally you can use the switch mode button top left on the menu bar to view the underlying tags and edit it that way (i.e. in the way I suggest above)
