I agree. But sometimes layering creates more distortion than its worth. Good advice??

stop making 'beats' and start writing songs. Even if youre not the performer. Think about it from the time you start to finish like a whole project and you'll find it gets more interesting. And don't limit yourself...think about it as if you had the best singing pipes in the whole world, or the best rap voice or whatever. Shit maybe even think about being a famous artists/your favorite artist and write a song for them.

I would load a beat into your DAW that you find particularly interesting and sequence the same pattern as that track. Do it to as many tracks as possible then you will know how the pros do it.

try layering your instruments , so they sound fuller and fill the entire frquency bands by equalizing them properly , try not to use much compression as it flattens your tracks
