I was watching a tutorial I know the scale is Db Major and he's using the I IV and vi chords but they are not triads, what are these chords? For example the IV chord is Gb Major: Gb Bb and Db but he's not playing those notes exactly please help!!

so this is why him not telling you all about what he is doing doesn't help you

I've watched until about 12 minutes in and the following comes through

starting at 2:17

vi
Bb9sus4 - Bb-F-Ab-Bb-C-Eb as opposed to Bbm9 Bb-F-Ab-Bb-C-Db

i.e. the chord is now a dominant 9th with suspension rather than a minor chord

IV
Gb6/9 no 3rd - Gb-Db-Ab-Db-Eb-Ab as opposed to Gb6/9 Gb-Db-Ab-Bb-Db-Eb-Ab

because there is no 7th this a 6/9 chord rather than a 13th. Lacking the 3rd it is difficult to assign function to it as it is a wandering type of chord - there is no clear direction for the chord to move in

the passing chord - I
Db13 - Db-Ab-F-Bb-B-Eb - the B is actually Cb in the key of Db - this is a dominant 13th chord which runs counter to our expectations of a maj7 flavour

the walk up
A-Bb-C
F-G -A

suggestive of F-Gm-Am or Dm-Eb-F or Bbmaj7-C/Cm7-D7/Dm7

11:52
then he gets a bit mad and starts doing stuff outside of the chords he suggests as "all you will need"

that first chord is D-F-B-D-F-Bb, suggestive of Bbadd b9

I'll work on this over the next few days as there is a lot to pull out and notate accurately - I may have to actually do screen shot by screen shot to get some of the chords he is playing
