How would I go about recreating these drums? I love all the effects and what not but I wouldn't know the first step in creating drums that have that 80s feel. What do I need to do to recreate them? Like the woosh that came from the open hi hats and the tinny sound of the snares, the toms...everything...

And Prince used the Linn Drum alot back then from what I hear.
yep what m+b say, gt rvb and linn drum and boy, they used "studios" back in the days... not "just" reason... lol.... huge halls and recording plates, etc... I know stories where they rented big halls just to grab the ****in attack of a certain snare, etc... not to mention guitar recording... 
but you should find those samples easily even online somewhere, send me an example what you´re looking for exactly, maybe i have one from my own recorded library. doing music for a while now..
