Are these good as acoustic panels?

You could but they would be suspect as they are not necessarily designed for audio, simply to provide even pressure to whatever was inside the box they were in during transit.

best way to use them if you must is to stick them to a solid surface like a sheet of plywood and then hang or otherwise position in your recording area......
