Is there any vibrational benefit from having your studio monitors on stands versus having them on your desk?
What stands would you recommend to mount a HR824? thanks![]()

speakers will always sound better when on spiked stands, but only do it if you are really that bothered about the slight change in sound quality :]
I just bought a new set of speakers for my setup, and they are both sat on top of a pile of DVD boxes :]
OK, I got all this hardware and software, now how the hell do I use it ?

well, i also wouldn't mind getting them off the desk to have more room on there for all my other junkhaha....
is there any stands you'd recommend for the hr824's? those are some PHATTY [size & sound] monitors![]()
you won't hear any difference if the monitors are on stands vs a desk.Originally posted by recrudesce

if you get a large omnirack desk the monitors will sound fine on the desk.
You could probably hang them pretty easily, and I think that sounds pretty nice as well... except you have to drill holes in your ceiling or walls... but then you have more room... you don't even have to worry about bumping into stands... my friend has his stereo speakers hanging from his ceiling and they work great...
also an advantage of putting monitors on stands, or hanging them is the vibration... especially bass vibration... especially if you have sensitive equipment on your desk, vibration could wreak havoc on them?
monitors actually sound the best flush in the wall, but i'd nevr put the mackies in a wall. you won't have any problems putting your monitors on the desk. thay are made that large so you can. i think the good stands for the mackie monitors are a few hundred...
what type of console do you have?
these are some good stands

Monitors sound better on stands , as a desk will transmit vibration and resonate. You do not mount near feilds in the wall and farfeilds are client pleasers not accurate monitors. Mid feild position with no diirect angle of reflection to the listening position will give the best results.
Omniracks stuff is redicuously pricey.

Just make sure the stands are really solid. Out here in California we have to think about stability quite a bit...
I believe a lot of the better stands are intended to be filled with sand, which should lower the resonance of the stand and cut down some on vibration transfer.

any recommendable stands? [maybe silver or silver trim?]
Hi, I'm in the same situation. I was thinking of the Quiklok BS336 (BS342 is the same only 42 inch high instead of 36) but I don't now if they will do the job right.
- All-steel, arc-welded construction - NO fiber or particleboard
- Attractive design incorporating cable management
- Solid, stable triangle base with adjustable leveling floor spikes
- Vertical columns may be sand loaded to deaden sound and increase stability.
- Rubber padded top plate measures 11" square
- 125 lb. Weight Capacity
- Fixed height of 36"
