    What's goin on,

    I have 2 quick questions about monitors/speakers.

    1. I have a relatively small studio and I'm using Yamaha HS 50's (no woofer) for production and vocal recording. For some reason my mixes usually sound good on the monitors but sound "muffled" in car and home stereos. Is it the acoustics of the room or am I doing something else wrong? (I'm using Ableton Live for audio and vocal recording if that makes any difference.)

    2. Like I mentioned previously, I'm using HS 50's for monitors, because these monitors are small, I was wondering if there was another pair of monitors that I can combine with this to get a much better and bigger sound.

Well it's most likely the way you eq'd your mix. if your monitors have a bit too much emphasis on the highs you might just be reducing the highs in eq too much. that seems to generally be the case...

yeah at the back of your monitors you will have dials to tweak the sound to your room the most common problem is due to bad acoustics in your room so your not getting a true representation of your mix it may empise the highs to much so you turn the highs down to sound good on your monitors but on other systems they will sound muffled best adjust them and as you adjust them do a rough mix to playback somewere else such as a car stereo when it sounds better leave it like that try and work on those settings and see how you get on but its best get acoustic treatment than buy more monitors because youve got a good set to begin with
