Maudio Audiophile 24/96 help...please!

My first guess is my system is not powerful enough to support this feature, but maybe you can help?

Utilizing any Software I choose for recording...I am getting crackle, etc. after about 24-28 seconds on each track I record..while using 24/96 setting...if I use 16/44, then all works fine...
my system amd 1.1 athlon , 256k ram, maudio audiophile 24/96 card.

question 1....what might the problem be (and any fixes??)?

question 2....if my system is the problem..what would the minumun system requirements be to utilize 24/96 recording..

Are you using ASIO drivers? Check to make sure you are and mess with the settings until it shows you have about 10ms of latency. The crackling should be gone.
