Looking for mic and pre-amp

I've just recently saved up enough money to buy a mic and a pre-amp. I was thinking of going with the Marshall Electronics MXL V57M Studio Condenser Mic and the PreSonus TubePre Single Channel Microphone Preamp with VU Meter. It should run about $200. My budget is pretty low, so I'm trying to get the best equipment with the money I've got. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would save up a bit more and buy some better stuff.. Might as well do it right the first time. Some good pres are the FMR RNP, True P-Solo, Grace 101... Even the M-Audio DMP3 can hold its own pretty well. As for mics, if you have a low budget you can't go wrong with the classic SM57 or SM58. It all depends on what you are planning on recording.

Check out some of the preamps by Art, Maudio, I have used both with good results. The models available range from cheap to expensive. We all are on a budget.

Budget is everything! In the recording industry; MONEY DOES A LOT OF TALKING!

I can almost guarantee that in any project home studio, the vocal chain SHOULD cost the most.

Rabbler is right! SAVE MONEY! If you dont have a job, GET ONE!
