I want to put up some acoustic foam in my home studio, but my dad is a handy man, and he doesn't want to have to Spackle or repaint any of the walls.
sticking things in the wall, glue, or Velcro are not an option.
is there anything, such as a wooden pole with a base, that i can put the panels on?
would that be able to work with bass traps as well?
    any advice is appreciated

bass traps see here Steven P. Helm: DIY Bass Traps

anything else, standing off the wall is ok, but make it at least 1 inch and make sure you go floor to ceiling with no gaps at either end (use the stuff they use to stop doors leaking air around their frames to create the seal if you can).

if you can put screws/hooks in the ceiling you can always hang them. but I'm guessing thats also not an option.

on a side note...why is your dad worrying about spackling and painting? I'm assuming you're an adult who's fully capable of doing that yourself when the time comes. Can't you just be like "uhhhh yea dad...I'll fix any damage I do, spackling ain't rocket science!"

damaged? so there's no picture frames on the mans walls? must be a pretty boring looking house...
but if we're only talking about putting up simple sound foam here, then those tiny framing nails would work just fine and cause minimal "damage"

A lot of rentals where I live do not allow you to put up posters, put nails in the walls, put up curtain rod fixtures, etc, as the cost of repairing any damage that results from removing is prohibitive (unless you do it yourself) and the tenancy law does not provide for the owner of the property to be compensated for what is considered normal wear and tear in the dwelling.

which is exactly what I suggested in my first reply...ANYONE can spackle the tiny little hole that a framing nail makes. I'm sure the guy is more than capable. and if he wants to make less holes, he can glue 4 squares to a board and simply nail that up.

you miss the point - the do it yourself is for the owner to contemplate, not the tenant and then only if they allow the tenant to make alterations to the property in the first place....

I've moved 5 times in my life time in and out of various new york apartments and NEVER had to ask the landlord to put up a freakin picture frame. dont u realize how silly that sounds? putting a tiny framing nail in the wall is an "alteration" to you? i mean who knows, I've never lived anywhere other than nyc, maybe we're different here
