I'm about to receive some hardware, instruments, a mic, and so on. With what i have already (Big PC, MacBook pro, 61 key Midi keyboard, big monitor) There's no way in hell it will all fit on my tiny desk. I'm looking to design my own studio but I have no clue where to even start. Hoping some of you guys could give me some pointers. I'm also thinking of building my own desk because it's a lot cheaper and I'll be able to customize based on my needs. Please reply and give me some pictures of your guys' studio's! I'm really curious/excited to start this.

May not address his specific needs

    Read this The Recording Manual

and go here DIY Studio Racks & Gear Forums (- disclosure I am a moderator at this site) to learn about building desks and rack units

This is something I built a while back, it houses my turntables and mixer plus all my rack gear.

Pretty cool. Do you guys think I should buy or build a desk? Obviously it would be cheaper to build but I'm no master carpenter so maybe buying would be better??

That kind of depends on the amount & type of gear you're actually going to handle.

PC, MacBook Pro 15", behringer umx610 keyboard controller, m-audio keyboard controller (half the size), MBox pro audio interface, korg padKontrol, Microphone, maybe a smaller drum machine, and currently looking for a reasonably priced analog synth. That should be all at the moment. Oh and two acoustic guitars and maybe a sax in the near future. Any ideas??

Buy, you don't have a need for what I was suggesting.....

    ps

this is a lot of equipment

These are old shots of most of my gear but not all. I have also bought more since these were taken.

Holy crap man. I'm so jealous. Honestly kind of angry that I even posted this thread. I still however want some ideas on setup just because I don't really know what to do. I want to be able to play with everything i have on one surface. I don't want to have to unplug something, set it somewhere, grab the other thing, plug it in. It just becomes a hassle. Just looking for cool ideas. And btw you wanna let me borrow a sax =P

Well, you won't be needing two similar keyboard controllers, so you might just sell either the Behringer or the M-Audio off. After that, the keyboard is really the only piece that's gonna take up a considerable amount of space, so you might just get away with it with a keyboard stand on the side instead of building a whole new desk...(which coincidentally is exactly how I have things set up )
