IMO, it has to be original, the truth (or you can be speaking from someone else's perspective Kanye does it all the time), **** that makes me think hard, and it has to make me smile for no reason at all, like it makes the hairs stand up on my arms. The only people in the game that give me that feeling now is Loaded Lux, Andre 3000, Ludacris, and Biggie.
"Don King had hair cuts with better lines." - Loaded Lux
"So I'm watching her fine ass, walk to my bedroom, and thought to myself that's the shape of things to come."- Andre 3000
"I own so many jerseys I'm a throwback mess, I hit the cleaners and tell them I want a FULL COURT PRESS." -Ludacris
"What ya tote? More Gun than Roses, foes is, shaking in their boots, invisible bullies, like "The Gooch." -Biggie
Smokey
creativity

emotional appeal

i hate lil wayne
creativity is huge
wordplay, metaphors etc
also multis and internal rhyming
and flow
however i feel that you dont need all these things
method man has great flow and wordplay
eminem is an amazing rhymer
one thing is not better than another because each this is different, so i dont really think its what you do but its how good are you at what you do and a great example of that is tupac
he cant rhyme great, he doesnt use a lot of wordplay, his flow is nothing special, and he hasnt put out a single song that hasnt been heard before in one form or another, however he is someone that is great at just making you want to listen to what he says and because of that he is arguably the greatist ever
wordplay, metaphors, and subliminals... dont hafta be super big, intelligent words... just wordplay... make the listener learn from the song, even if its one thing... as wack as people think Kanye is, the man plays with his words... and makes the rhymes make sense... not like ur boy lil wayne... in my day, wordplay kept u interested in the whole song... the beat was a plus.

Best lyrics involve deep meaning, and a unique flow
the best lyrics are when everyone can relate to. multiple meaning metaphors aka double or triple entendre.the more vague and ambiguous you speak the more people connect. the bars have to be original and witty
For me the best rap lyrics are ones with emotion behind them. For example its not what you say, but how you say it. Of course the actual lyrics are important as well haha
They have to be believable, and creative, all with style...and that is all so dependant on delivery. So its not just what you say, or how you say it, but if the writing matches the rapper too
