What makes you write a great song?
I've noticed that when I was on holiday in Thailand I used to have a massage known as Thai massage it made me relax and find new songs. What are your tricks?

anything.... and everything.... i can be taking a shit and then BOOM..... idea comes.... or i could be walking down the street and i see a two-toned color car pass me and BOOM..... "TWO-TONED COLORS, LIKE A MARBLE" Ha... nah but really..... anything man......
whatever comes to my mind first, i'd use it somehow.... never force it.... but just different experiences help with songwriting and how you feel at times......
i dunno just replied to get my post up hahaahaha
I agree with "StayingPositive" everything and anything because you don't know what you will keep. If you find yourself forcing to write then relax and take your mind completely of music for a couple hours or maybe for a whole day. When have completely forgot about it, go back to it and ideas will flow smoother and make sure your relax when searching for ideas in your brain. trust me, under pressure, tiredness or stress, its difficult to come up with stuff.
Good Luck!
It might sound a bit cliche', but life and the environment around me gets me going. Another thing is Facebook; in the midst of all the attention grabbing statuses, are some good life lessons, problem, and fun that you can get out of it for a really good song.
There are many different things like if i wake up one day with something on my mind ill write the first line corresponding to that and that serves as a blueprint.
For me, inspiration can come in many ways. Sometimes its frustration, excitement, fear. Whatever gets my mind going, and then just roll with it.
Inspiration for me can come from anywhere but i mostly get my ideas for tunes while i'm walking. Don't know why, but usually if i'm struggling with getting a track down i'll go for a walk in the woods or somewhere that isn't too busy.
Im always just walking around freestyling in my head. It almost never stops. So eventually something good pops up1
I don't really have great songs. But when I feel that I'm onto something then I realize that all was made with intuition and I have not planned anything the way it came outThis is why envy people who have a plan and make a great track out of it.
random cycles of coffee, meditation, and the idea of the track's outcome usually do it for me. to a lesser degree it's reading, documentaries, and even the energy i feel while watching sports.
