hello all. I don't have too good a handle on music theory (I do know intervals though) and was wondering if I could have some help composing something.
I understand the I IV V chord progression for F major is F-Bflat-C. My piece is in F major. So far the piece is only bass notes and some strings I sampled. The strings have just two notes, and they make up the backdrop of the piece: a C note I hold for 4 measures, which alternates with a G note I hold for 4 measures, and so forth.
Because those notes (C and G) are in the chord of C, the fifth interval of F, I'm wondering what notes I can play in the bass which really match the strings. Can I play B flats, for example, because those are in the IV chord (bflat chord) of F, or would that sound strange with the string notes in the V chord? Basically what I'm asking is, what all notes are available to me to play? What notes would help me get a consonant harmony here?
Thanks a lot for your time.
