this might be cliche advice,but I'd say study the artists you listen to.and more accurately,study Wayne (circa 08') and even MF DOOM.both known for using many metaphors.
also study comedy.to me punchlines are also about how they're setup.they can tether between amazing and wack very quickly.it's a thin line.and just keep writing them and practicing...
