Does Lyrics Still Matter...? If Not Now, When?

Lyrics should matter but it depends on the audience and today's Rap audience is strung out on Trap but if you are not in the teens and twenties age wise you should be about capturing the attention of adults whose attention span isn't short but there's no way of knowing whose attention span is long or short. As a lyricist I go for thought provoking bars over bullshit.

It's not that lyrics don't matter... It's that different styles are lyrical to different people. An intelligent person MIGHT think Nas is a lyricist. Someone growing up in the hood might think Gucci Mane is lyrical. It's all relative to different people.

Ask yourself, WHO IS YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE!

That's true and i can't even disagree with you on that, simply because of how styles of lyrics are being changed everyday. But we must not avoid the fact that lyrics do matter if we're speaking in terms of hiphop and not rap.

What are you talking about, putting a line between intelligent people and people growing up in the hood.
