My First Old School Hip Hop Beat [F4F]

Hey guys, I'm experimenting on some different types of sounds. I tried to change up a bit and try out some new genres and this time I kinda wanted it to have a sad old school hip hoppy type of feel to it. This is the first time I've posted a beat like this and would love feedback on what y'all think about it. As always feedback will always be returned. :)

Thank you so much for the feedback, and yeah I agree with kicks. I may have to look at tutorials on how to distort them properly. But in any case Feedback returned!
 
i don't know what u're using, but a great way to add distortion is to put the distortion on a send effect or parallel channel and cut the lows after the distortion plugin/unit a bit, so your kicks don't get out of control.
 
I really like this. The melody and instruments sound really nice and make a really soothing progression. I agree that the drums are a bit boring. I have nothing against the sounds used, but could use some pattern changes throughout the song. I would maybe even cut them out at some points and bring them back in to change the energy in certain spots. I think it is very well mixed. Nice job.

I like how chill it is.
The introduction sounds real nice like its a steady slow buildup but once it drops it drops nice.
As mentioned above maybe a bit more variation to the drums & add some percussion or something just feels like it needs an extra edge.
Overall i like it freestyle over it real easy it gave me a story telling upcoming of life type of feel to it.

The melody is nice, the keys are subtle and the overall instrumentation was solid. Though it sound very standard, you should try experimenting more with different instruments and chord progressions to get something unique. The drums are pretty bland, the sound very robotic. You should try giving them a loose swing to them, as well as some eq to make them sound better. But overall this was solid, not something I'd listen to but definitely not bad.
