I like the concept of the beat. The whole atmospheric vibe, the piano made it very chill and relaxing, as well as the ambient sound in the background. While I get you were going for the Dilla swing on the drums, it sounded a bit off at points, and not in an intentional manner. I also felt the drums sounded a little bland and weak. A solid EQ could have definitely made it much better, or at least have it sit well in the mix. Another note is that a nice bass line is missing, a thick bass line could have added more to this. But aside that, this beat has some potential. The vibe is great, and I feel like if this was mixed better, I could listen to this for hours. Like those Homework edits they have on YouTube. Much love.
i agree with the post above. i think you went a little too far with those offsets to the point it doesn't sound too pleasing to the ear. i also don't like that key chop that comes in and stutters. some of the drum pattern doesn't make sense to me, and i do listen to a lot of psychedelic and experimental stuff. for this particular beat i would go back, increase the tempo a bit, especially because of the sound of the drums, re-arrange the drum pattern after (or before) you re-chop the sample and add a dope bassline. just my opinion.
- I like the piano sample -- its smooth
- I agree with the first review -- i see where you were going with the swing of the drums but at some points it def sounded too off
- I would maybe up the sample a little
- I would clear a little bit of the low end with EQ -- it feels too full for my taste
- I would turn up the kick too -- its too low in the mix
- Maybe add tiny reverb to the snare to give it an ambient feel
something is missing, the beat feels dull and lifeless and out of tune at some place. The beat is not following the metronome i guess. I don't know exactly what you are trying to achieve here so its hard for me to give a feedback. Although try to make the mix clear.
